Thrift Store find- RadioShack CB Antenna

A cheap CB radio antenna normally costs between $12 and $20.
Not for me though, dirt cheap is what I look for.
The magnetic mount makes it easy for installation.
Before I slap it on the roof. I'll tune it first.
This should give me decent transmit and receiving range.
I'm not that serious about it, but I do like CB radios.
They tell me where Smokey the Bear and the Fuzz are hiding
on America's highway's.
I like to roll like the wind.....and that can be a problem.
East bound and down, loaded up and trucking.
Like good ole Smokey and the Bandit.
Funny movies for the time..
Pretty sure I could kick Burt Reynolds ass though.....
A typical CB radio and antenna set up can run around $35-$50 new.
That's the cheaper low end stuff.
A decent Cobra classic radio, with tuned antennas can run an easy $200.00.
I picked up my Cobra for $29.99 and the antenna was $3.98, not bad.
I would say, "Watch out Smokey, here I come!,"
But I know where you are and I've already slowed down.

Manly Mechanic's Gloves. MPACT2

Mechanix gloves are pretty bad ass.
Wear them when you're doing manly work.
They have reinforced pads to protect against knuckles busting, scratches
and other stuff that makes manly work aggravating.
Good fore smacking ass they are very comfortable and durable.
I can see wearing these all day.
Good gloves for manly stuff......

CheapGeek- wire rack laptop cooling stand..

I decided to use a wire shelf as a laptop cooling stand.
Not really looking for anything in particular, just a way to add
some space underneath my laptop.
Space =ventilation. Ventilation is good.
There are plenty of options out there.
I'd rather spend the money on something else.
Sometimes simple is good.
The wire shelf is cut with a hacksaw.
All I had to do was measure the laptop, add two inches and saw.
Done. Easy..
It actually works pretty good.
Laptop feels cooler, the angle of the shelf is comfortable and the shelf isn't in the trash.
I have enough to do another one. I might done one for my netbook.
Simple stuff..

Thrift store find for camping- Coleman x2 for $11.00

I picked up 2 vintage Coleman coolers for $11.00 from a Thriftstore.
Not bad!

I might buy a new Coleman Xtreme Series cooler.
I do like the look of the new coolers. More modern, that's for sure.

Looks like a cooler Darth Vader would use.

You name it. He really tries to protect me against the weed eater.
That's his sworn enemy.

CheapGeek tip of the day-Boiling eggs and vinegar.

I like boiling eggs. They are quite tasty with some salt and pepper.
Hard boiled they make a good low carb snack that are also portable.
Convenient.
egg from ehow.com

Here's my tip.
Add a splash of white vinegar to your water when boiling eggs.
If the eggs crack while boiling, the white vinegar- keeps the egg from coming out of its shell and making the water cruddy.
The vinegar doesn't do anything to the taste.
Just keeps the egg in the shell.
Where it should be..

CheapGeek laundry tip1

Laundry tips.
Add a one cup of white vinegar to the wash for a fabric softener.
It also helps to turbo charge your laundry soap or detergent.
Vinegar will actually help the rinse cycle in your washer actually rinse left over soap / detergent out of your clothes.
Add a cup to the fabric softener dispenser or to the rinse cycle to help soften your clothes.
The vinegar smell is virtually unnoticeable after your wash is complete.

Can also be helpful to those with sensitive skin.
Vinegar helps to more thoroughly remove soap/detergent and the perfumes and dyes, that build up in clothes over time and helps with hard water.
If you have clothes from deep in the closet, an attic, thrift store or rummage sale, you can use the vinegar to reduce that vintage, musty ass smell....and it's Cheap...

Thriftstore Find- Coleman Catalytic Heater

This Coleman Catalytic Heater is pretty nifty.
Pretty simple design and it should work well for camping.
I painted the stove earlier, and I did the same thing with heater.
Even if we don't go camping, for emergencies we can eat and we have heat.
It's pretty old, from  March 1972. 38 Years Old! Hopefully this will
give it a new lease on life...

Thriftstore find- for camping Coleman Campstove 425F - Refurbishmentation

After a little sanding and some Snazzy Red paint, and the stove looks awesome.
A quick and easy project with decent results. I'll probably do it again.
The small feeling of accomplishment is worth it. The Coleman Camp Stove 425F is looking
ready for a trip in the woods. I'll use this stove when or if we ever go camping.
The plan is to go some time in the near future. Which will probably be spring.
If you're curious how much a new Coleman stove costs-
Click here (amazon)Coleman Two-Burner Propane Stove
I like the fact that I paid $4.98 and painted it.
I really like that I spent about 20 bucks. I'm still $30. under...
Keep an eye out.
You might find one for even cheaper.

CheapGeek Tip of the Day- Lunch Bag2

CheapGeek Tip of the Day- Lunch Bag 2
LunchBag2
I carry an extra insulated lunch bag in my car.
All my electronic gadetry will go in that lunchbag when I stop somewhere.
If I stop at a store-
I'll stuff the GPS, camera, whatever I have of value in the bag and set it behind my seat. I don't want to carry all that stuff in with me, when all I want is a gut-buster hot dog and a giant slurpee. (7-11)
The insulated bag's thermal properties will help keep my electronics cool and protect from the sun,  heat and humidity.
Also helps with "Out of Sight out of mind," for would be thieves.
Thieves want your good stuff, not your lunch.
They see a crappy lunch bag, not a cool Magellan GPS and a nice Canon Powershot camera. I always have a camera in my car."You never know when the Statue of Liberty is going to do a backflip"- Mr. Eric Brooks.
You never know what you're going to see..
I alo have a cheap backpack in the trunk.
Just in case I ever breakdown, I can take most of my important junk with me..
Cheesy Lunch Bag = secret vault.
Here's an unrelated picture of Bryan Cranston.

CheapGeek Tip of the Day
Lunch Bags1
If you carry an insulated lunch bag to work.
(Extra tip- the best time to buy these is, after the school year starts- they'll be marked down about at least 50%)

Here's an easy way to keep the contents (i.e. your lunch) a little cooler.
Now it should be said, I know there are freezer inserts to place in the bag to keep it cool.
This is in addition to those, or even if you don't use them.
I don't generally use them,
I'm a big dude and my  lunch bag is alittle small.
Food space is at a premium.
Anyway, here's the tip.
Take 3 or 4 smaller plastic bags, ball them up, and individually stuff them on top of your delicious lunch bag contents.
The bags create an insulation type barrier.
Almost like a street person / homeless person/ bum / hobo stuffing balled up newspaper in their clothes to keep warm in the winter time.
Same principal, bags give more insulation to keep the cold inside.
Plus you can use one of the bags for trash.

For $3.98 this stuff is going to be the new floor to my 1977 VW Bus.
A little green got me some "green."
SWEET.
It's very thick and very nice..
